1) February is Responsible Pet Owners Month!
Winter is definitely here and not only do we need to protect ourselves from Old Man Winter, but the same goes for our pets. Here are a few things you need to make sure are in check during the winter months:
Do you have enough of the following items to last a few days, should the roads become unsafe or businesses need to close for a day or two due to inclement weather?
• pet food
• cat litter
• fresh water supply
• soft warm bedding
• any medications your pet takes on a regular basis
Here are some precessions that need to be taken for outdoor pets: Some pets are kept outdoors. There is a common misconception that dogs and cats will be "fine" if left outside. This is not true! All pets need adequate warm shelter from the elements. Insulated areas are important and a must in extreme cold temperatures. Pets should not be left outside for long periods in freezing weather - like humans, they can suffer from hypothermia and frostbite. The young and the senior pets are especially at risk.
Indoor accommodations are best during extreme cold temperatures, but if that is not possible, set up a suitable house in an area protected from wind and snow. Insulation, such as straw or blankets will help keep in the animal's body heat. Be very careful if your animal is prone to chewing, animals can ingest fabric and other materials causing a whole different set of problems! Make sure water sources do not freeze. Check often throughout the day when temperatures dip below freezing. Also increase the amount of food you are feeding your dog. The body burns more calories when it’s trying to stay warm.

Red Raspberry Mousse
This recipe is not only festive for the Valentine’s Day holiday, but it is absolutely delicious. Oh, and did I mention it’s pretty easy to make?
Raspberry Mousse Ingredients
2 cups fresh raspberries
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1-1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup cold water
1 cup heavy whipping cream
Place the raspberries in a food processor or blender; cover and puree. Strain and discard seeds. Transfer puree to a large bowl. Stir in sugar and lemon juice; set aside.
In a small saucepan, sprinkle gelatin over cold water; let stand for 1 minute. Stir over low heat until gelatin is completely dissolved. Stir into raspberry mixture. Refrigerate until slightly thickened, about 1 hour.
Transfer gelatin mixture to a large bowl. Beat on high speed until foamy. Gradually add cream; beat until thickened, about 2 minutes. Spoon into dessert dishes. Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set.
