This caramel apple pie fills you home with yummy Autumn goodness!
This caramel apple pie takes caramel ice cream topping and gives it a new spin. What could be better than receiving a fresh homemade apple pie? How about a caramel and pecan apple pie?
Caramel Apple Pie Ingredients:
7 cups of sliced Granny Smith Apples or other tart apples.
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla ( I love vanilla, so I usually add a little more)
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons sugar
4-1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 cup caramel ice cream topping, room temperature
1 unbaked pie crust (9 inches)
3 tablespoons melted butter
3/4 cup flour
2/3 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup sugar
6 tablespoons cold butter
1/4 cup caramel ice cream topping, room temp.
Cut and peel apples. Some people like to use an Apple Slicer/Corer personally I like using a paring knife.
In a large bowl, toss the apples with the lemon juice and vanilla. This not only adds flavor to the apples, it also stops them from turning brown.
Combine the pecans, sugar, cinnamon and cornstarch. Add to the apple mixture and toss to coat the apples. Pour caramel over the bottom of pie crust. Add apples to the top of the caramel. Pie shell will be full. Drizzle with melted butter.
In a small bowl, combine the flour, pecans and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture looks like a course crumb mixture. Sprinkle on top of apple filling.
Bake at 350 degrees for 55 - 65 minutes or until filling is bubbly and the topping is browned. Take pie out of the oven and immediately drizzle with caramel ice cream topping. Cool on a wire rack.
Pie serves 8
Some people get really fancy with their pies and use a Decorative Pie Top Cutters. The top cutter definitely makes your pies look more professional.
